BAPTISM

What is baptism: for years the tradition of baptism commonly known as Christening has taken place in our Churches throughout the UK, but what is it?

Put quite simply, baptism is the first step toward a relationship with God and the beginning of a new life, which you know as Christianity.

This new life is called by many names, being born again, the life of the spirit, a life lead by the Holy Spirit, a life given over to following Jesus etc. In order that this new life may prosper, the person being Baptised is asked to join a new family which we call ‘Church’.

The new life that we are inviting you take part in is not easy however it is very rewarding. Christians believe that we are all God’s children and as His child we can receive the blessing that God gives to each of us, its this faith that helps us to live a life to the full as Jesus said ‘I have come that you might have life and life in its fullness’ ‘John 10’.

Here at Christ Church Luton we believe, that a person presenting themselves for Baptism needs to understand just what is involved in Baptism.  To help the person understand we ask he/she to come to Church on a regular basis if it’s a child to be Baptised then we would like to see the parents and the child in Church on a Sunday. After all if you are about to join a new club then you would first attend to see if you like it, wouldn’t you (as all churches are not the same).

We will then visit you at home to explain just what baptism is about. We then ask the person or parents to attend a course of Baptism classes, these usually last 5-8 weeks, when the course is over we will invite the parents/child or candidate to a baptism service. These services are in the main 10.30am service at Christ Church Luton and usually take place on the third Sunday of the month.

Your baptism is just the first step on the journey to a new life, as you grow we would hope that you become an active member of our Church family and in return we will support and help you throughout your life.

If you would like to know more about Baptism then we would welcome any enquiry.
